Paul Gomes Birthday

My friend Paul Gomes, whom by the way is amazing guitar player, visited me in NYC. We got to check out the Who Shot Rock and Roll photography show at the Brooklyn Museum. Then topped the day off at the Half King in Manhattan for beers, burgers, fish and chips, and a surprise birthday cake for Paul. These are some of the pictures from that day. Enjoi! *shot with a Leica M8 35mm F.20

Heading to Fruita

Fruita, Colorado is considered by many as the meca of mountain biking in it's state. Not that long ago there wasn't even a trail. But thanks to people like Troy Rarick from Over the Edge bike shop Fruita became a destination. ( More about Fruita and Over the Edge http://otefruita.com/story ) The drive to Fruita was about 2 1/2 hours from Frisco, Colorado or 4 hours from Denver. Driving through mountain passes and incredible landscapes. Once we arrived, Byron and I bellied up at Judy's cafe, a landmark cafe in Fruita, for some hearty breakfast items.

All about the bike

Looking out the window as I flew into Denver over a week ago, I never imagined that I'd be biking everyday in some of the best places in Colorado, Utah and Nevada. Pictured is my friend Byron, who picked me up and drove right over to our friend Amy's house to get in a quick ride before we blasted across the state of Colorado. She rides everyday on a trail right across the street from her house in Lakewood.

Superboat series in Jersey City, NJ

Some random images from the Superboat series that took place out on the Hudson River this past Sunday. I got to meet a couple of the teams since they were set up in Liberty State park next to the boat marina.

Superboat winners

Superboat footage Part 2

Lots of action pack stuff here folks. These boats were hauling Ass in the Huson river my friends. It was loud but definitely worth watching.. if your into this kind of stuff. Well today, I was.

Superboat footage Part 1

This is just a quick test along the Jersey City side of the Hudson river looking at Manhattan while the 2009 Superboat competition was going on. Not knowing a damn thing about this sport, I decided to find out more. This footage shows the Miss Geico Racing boat out in the water, boring shot but this also the first time I've loaded a video on youtube. Boom!.. I'm in.logged on.

David Guggenheim

I was at the Apple Store in Soho NYC and it was right when Anthony De Curtis ( journalist from Rolling Stones Magazine) was interviewing David Guggenheim, the director known for his documentary " The Inconvenient Truth" with Al Gore. He was there talking about his new documentary "It's Might Get Loud" a project involving guitarist Jimmy Page, Jack White, and Edge. Here's the link to the trailer http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/itmightgetloud/
I can't wait to see this movie!!!

Bad Weather in NYC

Here's a shot taken out the window of my producer friends office right before the weather got insane. So much wind and lightening. I was hiding back by the door.

All Stars Among Us

I worked on this video project for MLB's 2009 All Star game in St Louis. It also aired on Fox network just before the start of the game. I hope people out there take notice to this program. The people I documented were amazing... and now good friends.

views

I arrived in LA on Sunday. I left a cloudy damp New York city. Typically June gloom in LA but the sunny skies and warm days are here. I'm staying at The Andaz on the Sunset Strip. It is a recently redone hotel. Really nice designed place. Rooms are simple with hint of the old rock and roll past like records albums on the desk. Guitar designs on the wall. The food down in the restaurant is awesome. The kitchen is right there in front of you to see it all happen.

A typical New Orleans evening

These were taken as a test in New Orleans. Pat brought a "30" pak to keep it entertaining. Jan was holding two flashes right near the camera. fun. fun. fun.

Jersey city Sand Bar

Right at the end of the street on Marin Blvd in downtown Jersey City, NJ is the famous Sand bar. I have never step foot in the place but I hear it every weekend when I'm around home. A great place to pick up someone or piss off a drunk or strip naked and jump in the marina basin at night. hmm.

Trick Biker 1901

Here's a cool video Thomas Edison shot of a biker pulling off some tricks on his single-speed fixed gear bike. Not bad riding for a dude way back in 1901.

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

I was invited to go to the Coney Island Aquarium on Saturday. My wife's friend brought her 7 year old daughter, Emma. She was hanging with me and I was able to take some interesting shots. This one was her standing in front of the Jellyfish tank.

I love this Van

I am not sure what year this VW van is but I love it. It's clean smooth design. Lot's of room. Perfect for the traveler/mt.biker/photographer/kiteboarder guy ; like myself... that's also my condo in the background behind those RVs. This happens to be the closest place you can park an RV near Manhattan...

I'm in New Orleans

I'm working down in New Orleans right now for a few days. It's been a very interesting time. Many really nice people you talk to on the streets. You are allowed to drink beers and cocktails outside while walking around as long as it's not in a glass container. That sounds reasonable.
During a location scout we stopped at Middendorf's for a Fried seafood experience. Pictured above is a birdeye view of our table. You'd think a Tums would come with an order like this but we all enjoyed this fried feast from the famous eatery; next to it was this bridge landscape. You drive on many of these type causeways around this part of Louisana.
I photographed the Lucky Dog cart while heading to the hotel. It's a small chain of mobile hotdog vendors.. a much more interesting cart than the stardard NYC style. More to come. Stay tuned.

A night out at the bar

My friend Aaron and his girlfriend Christine looking good under the red lights at No Malice Palace in New York City.

Pat is just hanging out as I spy on the woman outside. I was waiting for her to react or do something but she was just looking at her friend.. boring.

This was way more fun when we were all drunk trying to take this picture. Her camera was recording her live as I shot her.... but there was a person with a camera photographing me... ah-HA!

What's Sacha doing?

Here's my studio mate, Sacha Newley; in action!!.. and working on another project. I like how this one is going... plus he's sporting an Obama hat. Awesome. You should check out his work: http:www.sachanewley.com , it's quite amazing.. I'm lucky to be in a studio where we are both working on different types of mediums in art. He impires me to work hard, to be creative, to pay attention to detail.. right on Sacha!

the Dalai Lama

My friend DJ, his sister Gillian, her boyfriend Tom, and I went to see the Dalai Lama uptown in NYC yesterday. He was set up at the Beacon Theater. Beautiful stage set up. His talking put me in and out of sleepiness. Apparently he has that effect on people. Though, I didn't see any of the monks on stage bobbing their heads.

Making this Blog work

I am psyched to start making this blog work. Beside having a website that shows off my professional photography; I want to expand my viewers with more... more creative stuff to look at..to react to and make comments about.. like these videos of me... and there will be more! lot's more. enjoy
